Care information

Installation Instructions

  • Disconnect power to the waterer before beginning any service work
  • Locate the heating element compartment under the trough
  • Remove the old thermostat disc and note its position relative to the heating element center
  • Mount the new Ritchie #11885 disc directly under the trough in the same position
  • Adjust disc position: move closer to the heating element center for higher temperature, further away for lower
  • Reconnect power and test water temperature after 30–60 minutes of operation

Temperature Adjustment Tips

  • The thermostat disc controls temperature in the 55–65°F (13–18°C) range
  • In extreme cold climates (BC Interior, Alberta, Prairies), position disc closer to center for maximum heat output
  • Monitor water temperature for the first few days after replacement to confirm correct setting
